The National Educational Readiness Pilot (NERP) is a Ministry-approved programme developed and managed by Edu Support Vending. The programme helps improve student readiness by providing students with convenient access to essential writing tools through professionally managed school-based vending stations.
NERP was created to address a common challenge experienced in classrooms—students arriving without the writing tools they need to participate fully in learning. Although seemingly minor, this issue can interrupt lessons, reduce valuable instructional time, and create unnecessary classroom disruptions. NERP provides a practical, sustainable solution that helps keep students prepared.
How does NERP benefit schools?
NERP helps schools by:
Improving student readiness
Reducing classroom disruptions
Protecting valuable instructional time
Providing convenient access to essential writing tools
Eliminating the need for schools to manage pencil inventory
Providing a fully managed service, including installation, maintenance, and restocking
Does it cost schools anything?
No. NERP is designed to provide participating schools with a professionally managed solution without installation costs. Edu Support Vending manages installation, servicing, maintenance, and scheduled restocking throughout the school year.
Who owns the vending stations?
All NERP vending stations remain the property of Edu Support Vending unless otherwise agreed through a specific partnership arrangement.
Who installs and maintains the machines?
Edu Support Vending manages every aspect of the programme, including installation, preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, repairs, and restocking. Schools are not responsible for operating or maintaining the machines.
Do the vending stations require electricity?
No. NERP stations are fully mechanical and require no electricity, making them simple, reliable, and cost-effective to operate.
Where are the vending stations installed?
Each NERP station is installed in an approved, supervised location identified in consultation with the participating school to ensure convenient student access and effective programme operation.
What products are available?
NERP stations primarily provide quality graphite pencils suitable for everyday classroom use. As the programme evolves, additional educational writing tools may become available where appropriate.
Can businesses support NERP?
Yes. Corporate organisations can partner with NERP through school sponsorships, supply sponsorships, or strategic partnerships that help expand student readiness initiatives across Barbados.
What recognition do corporate partners receive?
Depending on the partnership arrangement, corporate partners may receive recognition through designated NERP station branding, sponsored writing tools, website recognition, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) impact reporting.
Is NERP only for primary schools?
No. NERP is designed to support primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, and other educational institutions where reliable access to essential writing tools can improve student readiness.
